A little thank you...

Complete the test and receive a $50 AUD fabric voucher, or the equivalent in your local currency (approximately $35 USD).

More info below!

Start by applying through the form at the bottom of this page. Applications are open from Monday 13 July to Wednesday 15 July, so it’s best not to leave it until the last minute.

  • If selected, we’ll contact you by email and you’ll have 24 hours to confirm your spot, including the size and variation you’ll be sewing.
  • Once confirmed, we’ll send through the test pattern files, instructions and video tutorial.
  • You’ll print the pattern, gather your supplies and sew the garment during the testing period: Friday 17 July to Sunday 26 July.
  • We’ll email you a set of questions about the fit, instructions and overall sewing experience. Your feedback will be due by the end of Sunday 26 July.
  • Once your test and feedback are complete, we’ll send you a $50 AUD fabric voucher, or the equivalent in your local currency (approximately $35 USD), as a thank you for your time and help.

Before applying, please make sure you’re comfortable with the following:

  • Sewing the agreed size and variation.
  • Printing the pattern at home or at a copy shop. The pattern is 24 A4/US Letter pages.
  • Supplying your own fabric, thread and sewing equipment. You’ll find the fabric amounts and materials needed below.
  • Completing the garment between Friday 17 July and Sunday 26 July.
  • Submitting thoughtful, detailed feedback by the end of Sunday 26 July.
  • Keeping an eye on your emails and responding promptly in case we send any updates or questions.
  • Keeping the test files private and not sharing, copying or distributing them.

Please only apply if you feel confident you can complete the test within the timeframe. We completely understand that life happens, so if something comes up after you begin, just let us know as soon as you can.

Not at all! Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, and feedback from newer sewists is just as helpful as feedback from those with more experience.

You’ll just need to feel comfortable with the basics, including:

  • Using a sewing machine.
  • Sewing straight seams and backstitching.
  • Preparing and pressing fabric.
  • Finishing raw edges with an overlocker or zigzag stitch.
  • Reading a sewing pattern and understanding basic sewing terminology.

Need a refresher? Take a look at our how to read our patterns and sewing terminology guides before you begin.

Complete the pattern test and submit thoughtful, detailed feedback by the end of Sunday 26 July, and we’ll email your voucher during the following week.

Your voucher will be worth $50 AUD or the equivalent in your local currency (approximately $35 USD).

You can choose the fabric store you’d like your voucher for. Please choose one that offers e-gift cards that can be purchased and sent online. If your chosen store doesn’t offer these and we can’t find another suitable option, we’ll send an equivalent Visa e-gift card instead.

The voucher is our thank you for completing the test, so it can only be sent to testers who finish the garment and submit thoughtful, detailed feedback by the deadline. Very brief or incomplete responses unfortunately won’t be considered a completed test.
